Economy and agriculture
The most important industries in Temerin are producing different
goods, trading, services and transportation of goods and people.
Rail road between Temerin and Novi Sad was built and started
working on 2nd July 1899. With this, industrial development of
Temerin started, as well as tilery and steam mil. That way Temerin became
one of the most important trading centers in the South-East Backa region.
After World War II industry was developing very fast, so in the
eighties it surpassed agriculture as a main economy branch till that time.
Income from production and reconditioning companies in 1983 was 61.5% of
all overall income. At the end of the last century Industry had employed
about 1600 people, in metal industry about 1000, in clothing industry
about 450 and in building industry about 100 workers were employed.
Agriculture was important industry branch, taking into
consideration revenue it makes. Municipality of Temerin has around 15748
hectares of agricultural land, which is 92.8% of the total territory of
the municipality. There are 100 hectares of Orchards and Vineyards. The
rest are arable land and gardens. Farmers cooperative were made and they
are responsible for 27% of arable land. During the eighties of last
century in agriculture 700 workers were employed. Today in the
municipality of Temerin there is 6845 employed workers, 5436 are retired
and unemployed about 5000 (this is data from the year 2004).
Parliament of the Municipality in July 2007 constituted Industrial
Zone “Ilandza”. On the territory that is more that 66 hectares the
building of several industry and sports structures are planned. This would
definitely have impact on the future development and prospect of the
Municipality of Temerin.
