Handicrafts and trading
Handicrafts and trading have long
tradition in the Municipality of Temerin. Temerin got the status of little
town in 1799 and since then got the right for organizing four livestock
fairs a year. Rail road between Temerin and Novi Sad was built and started
working on 2nd July 1899. With this, industrial development of
Temerin started, as well as tilery and steam mil. That way Temerin became
one of the most important trading centers in the South-East Backa region.
After World War II
industry was developing very fast, so in the eighties it surpassed
agriculture as a main economy branch till that time. Income from
production and reconditioning companies in 1983 was 61.5% of all overall
income. At the end of the last century Industry had employed about 1600
people, in metal industry about 1000, in clothing industry about 450 and
in building industry about 100 workers were employed.
In the eighties
Municipality of Temerin was third in the former Yugoslavia when it comes
to income in the private sector area. Association of small workhouses led
to establishment of today’s big industrial structure. Transition,
economical crisis and war surroundings in the past decade had negative
impact on the Municipality. Many very successful companies in the past do
not exist any more, and some companies have gone through a process of
ownership transformation and are successful nowadays.
Today, there are about
1000 successful industry entities.
Divided into branches, they look like this:
-Trading services -222 entities
-Hotelier services -71 entities
-Handicrafts -406 entities
-Transportation services- 171 entities
-Engineering services-61 entities
-Health Care services- 7 entities
Nowadays, in handicraft and trading services around 1700 workers
are employed with the constant tendency of this number to rise.
